Saana Kähkönen was born in Finland to a musical family and began playing violin at the age of three. Following studies at the Joensuu Conservatory and Karelia University, Saana moved to Helsinki, where she completed her undergraduate studies in violin pedagogy at the Helsinki Polytechnic Stadia in 2008. After several years as a freelance musician, Saana moved to Sweden in 2012 and began postgraduate studies with Matthew Trusler at the Malmö Academy of Music, graduating in 2014. In the autumn of 2016, Saana embarks on a postgraduate diploma in solo performance with Fredrik Burstedt.
Saana has freelanced with orchestras in Finland (Åbo Philharmonic Orchestra, Joensuu City Orchestra) and Sweden (Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, and The Göteborg Opera). She has previously studied with Christina Åstrand (Danish National Symphony Orchestra), Harry Traksmann (Tallinn Chamber Orchestra), Meri Englund (Tapiola Sinfonietta), and Reka Szilvay (Sibelius Academy), among others. Saana is much in demand as a chamber musician, and has also performed as soloist with the symphony orchestras of the Karelia University and the Malmö Academy of Music.
