Finnish conductor and violin virtuoso John Storgårds is principal conductor for the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, first guest conductor for the BBC Philharmonic and artistic director for the Lapland Chamber Orchestra. Storgårds is also a regular guest with orchestras such as the Bamberg Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
As a violinist, John Storgårds studied in Israel with Chaim Taub, after which he was appointed as concertmaster for the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Esa-Pekka Salonen. John Storgårds regularly performs works by contemporary composers such as Kaija Saariaho, Brett Dean, Per Nørgård and Peteris Vasks, several of whom have dedicated works to him. For his achievements, Storgårds has been awarded the Finnish State’s prestigious Tonkonstpris and the Order of the Lion of Finland medal.
