Janne Johansson received his education from The Academy of Music in Gothenburg and The Saint Louis Conservatory of Music. During his years in the US, he appeared extensively as principal bass with a number of festival orchestras, such as The New York String Orchestra and The Colorado Philharmonic. He also attended the Tanglewood Music Center a number of years.

In 1983 Janne moved back to Sweden as principal bass with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, also taking up a teachers position at the Malmö Academy of Music. In 1990 he left for Norway, firstly playing chamber music in northern Norway, and from 1992 as principal bass with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he holds to this day. Janne was also, for 25 years, the principal bass of the contemporary BIT 20 Ensemble. Here he worked closely with many composers, and has premiered a vast number of pieces both for ensemble and as a soloist.
